Kahoot -- Best Quiz Generating Game

Especially if you have older students, it can be particularly dull when it comes time to review for the unit exam.  You pull up a PowerPoint, set up stations, or hand over a study guide and say, "Get to work." When it comes time for final exams, it feels even worse because you have them study day after day.  One of my big theories as a teacher: if I'm bored, they're definitely bored.

I found an awesome game that my students just loved, called Kahoot!
Proof that it holds the attention of 9th graders:

My co-worker walked by and was impressed with how much my kids were loving this game.  It may seem that they're "on their phones," but that's how they control the game (I also provided laptops for those without smart phones).  Note: I used this game for grade-level, honors, AND special education biology classes, and I had 100% engagement in all of them.

This game is the way to play Jeopardy but everyone gets to play, or do buzzers without the kids smashing them because it can be done on their phones!  Kahoot is very similar to the trivia game at Buffalo Wild Wings by giving extra points for answering quickly and shows the top scorers.  It is different from BW3's in that the answer clicked cannot be changed once chosen and, unfortunately, does not have fireworks and celebration music as if you hit the jackpot at the end--hard to feel that you accomplished a lot without celebration...--so you'll have to pick up there :)

Start off by going to getkahoot.com
It's free! And then you have access to the public quizzes generated by others or you can create your own.

My kids loved being competitive against each other and still getting points for answering the question right even if they weren't first--unlike Jeopardy where only the fastest gets to answer. We are about to review for the Ecology Exam and my students requested that we play Kahoot!
